What Sets a Standalone Access Control System Apart

A stand alone access control system manages credentials directly at the device. Programming is handled through the keypad using a sequence of button inputs, and all user data is stored on the mini controller that ships with each kit. There is no external server to maintain and no software license to renew. Once a credential is enrolled, the system controls access independently.

This is a meaningful difference from networked systems, which require a computer, ongoing software administration, and network infrastructure to function. For businesses securing a single entry point, standalone keypad access control removes that overhead entirely.

Choosing the Right Standalone Access Control Kit

Every kit in this collection covers a single door. The selection variables are hold strength, swing direction, and reader type. Identifying these before browsing narrows the decision quickly.

Hold Strength

Our standalone kits are available in 300 lbs, 600 lbs, and 1200 lbs electromagnetic lock configurations. A 600 lbs maglock is the standard for most commercial door applications. The 300 lbs option is suited for interior doors in lower-traffic areas where the primary need is credential-controlled access. The 1200 lbs lock is best used in exterior doors.

Swing Direction

We carry kits built for both in-swing and out-swing doors. The mounting position of the electromagnetic lock differs between the two, and each kit is configured specifically for its swing type. Confirming your door's swing direction before selecting a kit ensures the hardware installs correctly without modification.

Indoor and Outdoor Reader Options

Some keypad and card readers in this collection are rated for outdoor use and built to handle weather exposure. Others are designated for indoor use only, and where that is the case, it is noted. If your entry point is an exterior door, selecting a kit with an outdoor-rated reader is the right call.

What Is Included in Every Kit

Each standalone door access control kit ships as a complete, ready-to-install package. There are no additional components to source separately.

Every kit includes:

  • Electromagnetic lock rated at 300 lbs, 600 lbs, or 1200 lbs depending on the configuration
  • Mini controller for direct programming without software
  • Keypad and card reader with Wiegand 26 output
  • Push-to-exit button for safe egress
  • EM card credentials are compatible with all readers in the collection

One kit in the collection also includes a wireless receiver and PIR motion detector for installations where remote entry or motion-triggered exit is needed.

Where Standalone Access Control Systems Are Used

Businesses that need to control a single entry point without network infrastructure are where standalone systems are most commonly used. Offices use them to restrict server closets and back offices to authorized personnel. Retail locations use them for employee-only areas and receiving doors. Small commercial facilities, including churches and laundromats, use them for after-hours access control without the overhead of managing software or a user database.
