Frequently Asked Questions About Standalone Access Control Systems
How do you program a standalone access control system?
Standalone systems are programmed directly through the keypad on the unit using a sequence of button presses outlined in the product manual. There is no computer, software, or network connection involved. Adding a new user credential, deleting an existing one, or changing the master code are all done at the device. The programming process does not require a technician.
What happens to a standalone access control system during a power outage?
Electromagnetic locks require power to hold the door closed. When power is cut during an outage or emergency event, the lock releases and the door opens. This is a fail-safe behavior by design and is the standard configuration for most commercial electromagnetic lock applications. If your installation requires the door to remain locked during a power event, an electric strike with adjustable fail-secure settings would be the appropriate alternative.
Can standalone access control systems be expanded to cover more doors later?
Each standalone kit controls a single door and operates independently. They are not designed to be networked together or managed from a central controller. If your access control needs grow to cover multiple doors or require centralized user management and audit logs, a TCP/IP networked system is a more appropriate solution. We carry networked kits that cover two-door and four-door configurations with software included.
How many credentials can a standalone access control system hold?
The standalone systems in our collection support up to 1,000 enrolled users per controller. Credentials are added and removed directly through the keypad. For the majority of single-door commercial applications, 1,000 user capacity is more than sufficient.
Do standalone access control systems work with key fobs and key cards?
Yes. All kits in this collection include a keypad and card reader compatible with EM card credentials, which include both key fobs and key cards. Both use the same Wiegand 26 protocol and function identically on these systems. The choice between a fob and a card is a matter of user preference rather than system compatibility.
