Magnetic Lock

Every business or individual concerned with the safety and security of their property should ensure that a magnetic lock has been installed. A Magnetic lock for ad door is an excellent choice, regarding security, cost, and safety.

There is hardly any bit of false information about these types of locks. As their name suggests, they utilize magnets to provide security for a wide range of doors.

Magnetic types of locks offer you the unsurpassed security you desire. Some of its key-ways cannot be picked, and if you desire the concealment of your compartments or doors, you couldn’t get a better power source. The Magnetic lock was inspired by the properties of a magnet to pull filings from several meters away and their ability to even melt metal. This immense power can also hold doors shut without the use of a bolt.

Magnetic locks are differently structured, depending on the purpose and the different uses of the magnets. Electromagnetic locks, for instance, use electricity to temporarily magnetize the metal. Different variations are used to set the pins in a magnetic keyed lock, for both the push and pull. Magnetic-coded locks, on the other hand, have a mixture of both the magnetic keyed lock and the standard lock.

You can get the best of both worlds. Magnetic keyed locks and FPC Security to install, repair, or upgrade them for you.

How does a magnetic lock works

Knowledge of how magnetic locks work needs a little background on magnetism. The best way to explain how magnetic locks work is by referring to the magnetic poles. A magnet has a North and a South pole. The common knowledge most people know is that similar poles repel each other while the opposite poles attract.

This sounds like a simple explanation of what it would seem like a complicated process. With the complicated aspects of magnets, it is not surprising to know how to represent some complicated aspects of quantum mechanics. This explains the magnetic effect.

When electrons spin while they orbit the nucleus of an atom, a magnetic field is caused. For a substance to be magnetic, the spinning must be of the paired valence electrons. However, this doesn’t happen in all types of elements except cobalt, nickel, and iron.

Every magnetic field created by an atom is called a domain. In the three metals, the domains have chaotic pole organizations. They can be uniformly structured with the use of electric current for door locks, which is the power that determines how magnetic locks work. The nature of the mechanism influences what your lock will use.

ElectroMagnetic Lock

Also known as electromagnetic locks, they function with the utilization of current flowing through several coils in an electric wire tied around an iron core. Others use a solenoid – a metal core surrounded by a single coiled wire. Magnetic locks are keyless and its locking effect is controlled by the solenoid or the electromagnetic strip. When a magnet connected to a door’s frame gets energized by current flowing through the coils, the door is locked. This is achieved by the armature plate attached to the door.

Disrupting the current flowing through the metal makes it lose magnetism. As a result, the magnetic door locks for home will not be fail-secure, that is, in the event of a power outage, the door will be unlocked. Luckily, most of these doors have what is referred to as a fail-safe.

The idea of a built-in fail-safe feature for electronic locks was designed to address the issue of doors with magnetic locks being securely shut during emergencies. For instance, if there is a fire emergency, you may be tempted to leave all the doors open, or go through all of them to unlock. The unlocking of all doors during a blackout was the solution. Also, some of the electromagnetic locks can be simply activated by pulling the fire alarm.

The absence of an emergency to disable the locks is solved by a magnetic key used to disrupt the current. This is only temporary as after only a few seconds, the current is restored to firmly secure the door to the frame. The strength of the force securing the door depends on the number of coils and the amount of current flowing through them. Also, the material used in the coil determines how secure the door will be.

How a magnetic lock work is essential in case you need to make a serious decision about the safety of a particular place. Some are as strong as to remain closed even under an intense amount of force, up to 1200 pounds. This is why they make the best choice for magnetic locks for glass doors, wooden, or even the metal types.

Magnetic Keyed Lock

These are different from electromagnetic locks. They are other types of locks that do not rely on electricity to function. But they use a permanent magnet for the key. They come in a variety of brands with different complexities. Some come with a single magnet for them to be opened. These types are not the best in terms of maximum security.

A single keyed magnetic lock may not cut it for security, but regarding concealment, they work just fine. Concealment is equal to telling intruders, “hey, there’s nothing hidden here.” There are other types of keyed magnetic locks that makes use of several magnets on its key. Such a series of magnets ensure that a single magnet doesn’t open the lock.

Magnetic keyed locks are advantageous as they are highly durable, they do not use electricity and have no possible way for one to insert a pick or even a tension wrench to break into your property. Because you can also decode them to open without a key, they make the best choice for a mag lock for gates or small maglock for various purposes.

Magnetic-Coded Lock

This is another type of magnetic locks for doors, which utilizes the conventional grooves and teeth for the setting of pins and tumblers. They come with a series of magnets that pushes and pulls the pins to a shear line. These types of magnetic locks for doors offer measures that are almost unbreakable. The only way to break them is by having an access to the key.

The decoder keys used to open these types of magnetic locks are unlike others that are jiggled in the lock until they open. Some of the magnetic-coded keys are advanced and decoded with programs that determine the various magnetic fields for the best security. Nonetheless, these locks remain quite intimidating to any picker.

Magnetic Lock Vs Standard Lock

Although how magnetic lock work is different from the standard locks, the two are similar in almost every aspect. The security they provide is what is different. It is better to combine locks for better security and safety, however, there is no denying that magnetic coded locks are the best choice as magnetic lock for doors both at home and in your place of business.

The security of the magnetic keyed lock only stands as long as the attacker doesn’t remember to pick them. But because you can use them as concealments, combining them with the standard locks will be much better. Combined measures mean that the intruder will have a hard time trying to break all of them.

Don’t settle for only specific types of locks that are hard to break or those that offer the best security, instead have a variety for your premises to remain ever secure.

What are magnetic locks and how do they work?

The magnetic locks also called electromagnetic locks to have two parts: electromagnet and induced plate (a metal foil). The electromagnet is in the frame and the plate to the door. Both components contact when the door is closed. When the electromagnet is energized, a magnetic flux is created that causes the armature plate to attract the electromagnet, blocking the opening of the gate. When the electric current is stopped, the door is allowed to open.

How can you cut the current so that the door opens? There is a button that cuts off the power supply and allows the door to unlock for a few seconds. It is the typical mechanism that you will have seen in the banks, where when entering you have to ring the bell for someone to open you unlocking the door.

We can find two types of magnetic locks, which we can call “with blocking” or “without blocking”. Locking magnetic locks remain closed when there is no current in the building, while unlocked locks are unlocked when there is no power.

Locking locks are suitable for security doors, which have to remain closed even if there is a blackout or any power cut. Instead, the locks without blockade are suitable for emergency exits (imagine that there is a fire in the building and the security doors were blocked).

Advantages and disadvantages of magnetic locks for doors

Advantage

Easy installation: a magnetic lock is easier to install than a conventional lock, as there are no interconnected parts.
Quick opening: the unlocking of the door is instantaneous, there is no need to fight with any bolt.
Robustness: Magnetic lock is more resistant to shocks or other types of damage. Maglocks cannot be “forced” in the same way as other locks and there are no moving parts that can break.

Disadvantages

  • They require additional software to be more secure.
  • In comparison, they are more expensive
  • It requires a constant power source in order to be safe.
  • As we have said, some can be opened in the event of a power outage.

Identify electromagnetic locks for doors based on technical indicators.

Magnetic locks can also be identified from a variety of technical indicators, the standard qualified magnetic lock, generally provide 12V and 24V input voltage (single coil and double coil difference), through the bridge to choose and change. There are several ways to judge a magnetic lock:

Circuit board: The faulty magnetic lock can be identified from the circuit board, the bad magnetic lock The printing of the circuit board, the design is very simple, there is no resistance to pressure (that is, overvoltage, there are usually two ), and only one voltage input group.

Resistance measurement: First remove the magnetic lock switching bridge 12V and 24V (Note: It does not need to electrify), it usually has terminals 4 (bridge), test it’s two red and black lines, resistance is preferred around the 50 ohms.
Current value after ignition: put the magnetic lock through the 12V voltage and measure the current value, with the market value is better. Magnetic locks 280KG (600lb) are generally good at 400-450 ma if less than 450ma is not enough tension; If the 24V voltage passes, the market value or the actual value should be 200 ma.

Insulation value: The insulation value of the standard qualified magnetic blocking body must be infinite, the specific value must be above 50 Megohm; The specific test position is the output line of cut steel sheet and blocking body.

The vertical grade of sheet steel: Cut the steel sheet, in principle, to minimize the use of the touch of the hand or verticality and the parallelism of the steel sheet of the qualified and qualified magnetic lock. The quality of the plate should be based on the non-oxidation mark on the plate.

Verification of filling glue: The colloid of the magnetic lock can not appear bubbles, it must be flat and orderly, without cracks, and the angle is square.

The cutting distance of the steel plate: The main concern is that the thickness of the cut of the steel plate should be 0.35 mm. At present, most of the steel plates on the market are 0.5 mm steel plates. The closer the steel plate is to the body of the lock, the better you pay attention to observe that the arrangement of the steel cut does not appear between the cementation.

Diode 4007: especially for locks without indicator light and signal output, this diode transistor is usually added to the positive and negative poles of the lock’s power supply. This treatment obviously reveals that the material of the lock does not pass through the barrier, and here some protection work has been done. Avoid connection errors of positive and negative poles or the impact input protection machine, etc.

Processing technology of the housing of the blocking body: Blockage Housing Casing General use Oxidation of wires or sandblasted oxidation, especially sandblasted, fine sand for the best. With the wire drawing of NEAT, pulverize the money evenly, the steel cutting surface of the housing is flat.

High and low pressure: Low pressure, blocking can still work, but the voltage is reduced; high pressure, the body of the lock will be hot, this time should pay attention to the temperature increase, the temperature rise more than 20 degrees for lower products, generally in one hour can be obtained within the temperature increase data.

Acidity test: with weak acid coated on the steel plate of the body of the lock, the good body of the lock 45 minutes before oxidation, and the difference generally in 15 minutes after oxidation. In addition, the body of the lock can be soaked in water and blackened in 24 hours

Output line: there is no signal output for the two-core electric lock, five-core detection output with one door.
